Food Markets

Friday is finally here and at SupperClub HQ we figure that there is no better way to spend our days off than exploring a local food market, stocking-up on homemade delicacies and mouthwatering meats, veg and herbs. Here is a selection of our favourite food markets across the UK.

London

Borough Market comes alive every Saturday as hungry Londoners and tourists head to the capital's most renowned food market.  With over 150 stalls full of British and international produce, it is a haven for foodies as well as renowned chefs and restaurateurs and offers a vast selection of cuisines. Just beware of the crowds – this is one bustling foodie hub!

More low-key suggestions in London include Brixton market (Europe's most famous Afro-Caribbean food market), Venn Street Market in Clapham, for those who are partial to little action south of the river or Billingsgate Fish Market, where early birds can pick-up fresh produce between 5am - 8.30am.

Beyond London

Officially the largest Farmers' Market in the UK, the award-winning Hampshire Farmers' Market takes place on the second and final Sunday of each month. With over 90 stalls, it is a gourmet paradise with a selection of organic produce as well as rare meats including buffalo steaks and ostrich meat.

For those who can't wait for Winchester, there are farmers markets every Saturday in Stroud and Edinburgh.

Moving even further afield, you will find locals and tourists flocking to Belfast's buzzing St. George’s Market every Saturday, which includes a selection of local produce such as beef from Armagh and delicious Irish farmhouse cheeses.

Whilst in Wales, Swansea is home to one of the UK's largest indoor markets. The Swansea Indoor Market is famous for it Welsh culinary treats including traditional laverbread, welsh cakes and cockles fresh from Penclawdd.

If you know of any fabulous food markets – do get and touch and we will get on the case with a visit!
