The Gourmet Barbecue

Once upon a spring day, the latest of group of lucky Diablo SupperClub recipe competition winners joined wine guy Joe Wadsack and myself in the Cotswolds for a culinary exploration of the char-grilled, yet terribly gourmet world of barbecuing - destination Weber Grill Academy.

Now before you let your mind get carried away with visions of sausages and burgers – STOP and think more along the lines of hickory smoked salmon fillets, goats cheese and sun dried tomato filo parcels and chocolate puddings… all cooked on the barbecue.

Weber Grill Academy

It was a day of gourmet barbecuing (the likes of which we had never seen!) and wonderful wines, or in other words a wonderful way to spend a Saturday!

After a glass of sparkling on arrival, our six winners and their guests were treated to a tasting of the Casillero del Diablo range, hosted by Joe. Next up, it was time to create a beautiful meal and learn all about using the humble barbecue for so much more than sausages and burgers! The menu was as follows:

Layered Smoked Salmon

Casillero del Diablo Viognier

Layered Smoked Salmon

Pastrami Lamb with Roasted Sweet Potato

Casillero del Diablo Pinot Noir

and

Sticky Lemongrass Chicken Skewers

Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay (Casablanca)

Served with Roasted Vine Tomatoes with Feta and Rosemary

Mediterranean Filo Parcels

Chocolate Molten Pudding

Rotisserie Honey & Orange Pineapple with a Honey & Mint Syllabub

Casillero del Diablo Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc

What a day! After dessert, our contended and sufficiently full guests were whisked back to a luxury hotel in Oxford for the evening.

I have since received some wonderful feedback and wanted extend special thanks to Clare, Jamie and Sam from Weber Grill Academy, as well as Joe Wadsack for ensuring a fabulous time was had by all!
